The Evolution of Saltwater Fishing Rods

Fishing has always been known to be a very soothing and satisfying past time. It still remains one of the most relaxing recreational activities, but it has advanced like so many other things in our planet. This advancement has contributed in making fishing, a lot richer and complex activity than it ever was. The enduring image associated with fishing, is that of a lone figure, sitting beside a lake, with his simply constructed fishing rod dipped into the water, waiting for a fish to bite and get hooked. The fishing rod could be a simple instrument made from cane, same with the hook and the reel. The differences in design would at most be in the length of the cane, and the reel. Only a few different kinds of hooks existed and few common baits. But now, that fishing rod has evolved into sophisticated equipment, designed for fishing in different situations like freshwater and saltwater. They are also constructed specially for catching different kinds of fishes like, small or big fishes, fishes that are known to be crafty, those that give a great fight or those that are relatively simple to catch.

Saltwater fishing has its own charms, fishermen who go fishing in saltwater intended to lure fishes like cod, eels, mackerel, tuna, tarpon, barracuda, sharks, bass, swordfish and many more exciting varieties. However saltwater fishing is entirely different from fresh water fishing and you will need equipment that has been specially designed for saltwater fishing.

Beginning with saltwater fishing rods, go for a good quality rod that is at least eight and a half to nine feet in length. Saltwater fishing rods need to be strong, because saltwater fishes give a good fight, the fishing rods should be good enough to take a lot punishment. Once again, saltwater fishing rods have to be designed in such a way that they are protected from the corroding effects of saltwater. Such rods are usually made of stainless steel, fiber, resin or titanium. They are stiff and sturdy. You can expect to get good quality salt water fishing rods for around $100 apiece.
